I’m Brazilian born, moved to the USA over 40 years ago with my family to for a new start in California. Aviation became my passion early: My first airplane ride was on a Boeing 737 flying from Brazil to the USA. My career began after earning my Private Certificate in 1993, and two years later, A&P (airplane mechanic).  My first mechanic job in the field he began at West Air Airlines, then Mesa which was then bought out by Skywest in 1998 where worked 13 years in the engine shop where I specialized in the following: - Borescope inspections - AGB removal and installation - Cold and hot section inspections QEC's - GE CF34-3B1 engines Blended damaged impeller blades - Bird strike inspections - NDT qualifications - Liquid penetrant inspections - 3 years of sheet metal experience - Run taxi qualification on EMB 120, CRJ 200-700-900, ERJ-175 aircraft While working as a full time Mechanic, I earned my ASEL Instrument rating, Commercial and twin engine rating as well as becoming a CFI. This journey came with its challenges as well. On top of an instructing job, taking care of my 5 acre property, and being a full time dad/husband, I developed Ulcerative Colitis which grounded me for several years. With the help of God, prayer and healing, I was ready to continue my passion! In 2019, I moved my family to Caldwell, ID to pursue the 1500 hours needed to fly for SWA. I earned my CFII at Silverhawk Aviation, where I instructed for approximately 1 year. After earning my hours, I went back to SWA as a student to fly the ERJ-175 airplane, and begin the intensive training. Half way through, COVID shut down the training program and sent the class home.  This is where Good Times Aviation was born! I had a Piper Cherokee that I never had time to finish. This was an opportunity to spend that time getting it fitted for Instrument training. A little about my interests: I love the outdoors, biking, sailing, and oh yes AIRPLANES. I have flown all types of planes, over 100 different planes, BT-13, Beech 18, T-6, C-310, EMB-120, and CRJ-200 and many others. My favorite plane of all time is the SR-71 Black Bird. I’ve been married for over 25 years to my beautiful wife Melissa. Since then, we’ve made 5 kids, 4 boys, and 1 girl (never a dull moment). Toby the oldest is 23, Hannah 21, Micah 18, Casey 15, and Cedar 12. My bucket lists include parachuting, swimming with sharks, just to name a few but the last item is a ride in a HURST car!

Thanks for stopping by! I have always been fascinated by airplanes and back when I was 21, I earned my private pilot’s license in Canada in the early 90’s. I did this as a part of pursuing my dreams of a career in the Canadian military as an F-18 pilot. Unfortunately, those dreams were cut short by military budget cuts – and my path towards my goal came to an abrupt end. It was a sad day. Back in my 20s, I didn’t pursue a career as an airline pilot because training costs were too high and wages were too low. Over the next 30 years, I instead chose the path of an entrepreneur and I have founded and sold several companies along the way, as well as being the host of the (now retired) Bright Ideas podcast. In April of 2023, with the support of my amazing wife, I made the decision to start career 2.0 and return to my love of aviation.  I’m now in the process of divesting my business interests and have enrolled in a part 61 flight school full time. My goal is to get my Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII, Multi-engine, and MEI certificates all by the end of summer 2023. Goal achieved on Aug 6, 2023. Certifications & Ratings May 29, 2023 – Got my FAA Private Pilot License (I had a Canadian PPL with 100 hours that I got back in the 90s) June 20. 2023 – Earned my Instrument rating July 10, 2023 – Earned my Commercial Pilot’s License July 25, 2023 – Became a CFI July 28,2023 – Earned my multi-engine rating Aug 3, 2023 – Earned my CFII Aug 6, 2023 – Will have my MEI Now that I have all these ratings, I get to put all sorts of letters behind my name 🤣 Trent Dyrsmid, CMEL, CFI, CFII, MEI

I have always had a passion for flight instructing and have been helping students achieve their goals since October 2019. With over 2,775 flight hours and over 1070 hours of flight instruction given, my students have a 90% first time pass rate and I hold a gold seal flight instructor certificate. I continue to work with students to help them succeed and my experience as an Army aviator and various certifications have made me a knowledgeable and skilled flight instructor.
